KALAN has withstood another key test. It swims with eight tons of ballast without any problems
Dolní Benešov, May 8, 2025 — Another test day of the New Space Technologies KALAN amphibious crawler vehicle, which took place on the Nezmar water area in Dolní Benešov, confirmed its exceptional capabilities. This time it was testing of navigability under load, with the vehicle carrying a load of up to 8 tons — approximately as much as the Tatra T810 military truck weighs.
But the tests are far from over — the target effective load for future tests is up to 13 tonnes.
The rehearsals were attended by distinguished guests — personally supervised by Brig. Gen. Ing. David Kareš, commander of the Rescue Department of the Czech Civil Aviation Safety Service, whose presence we greatly appreciate. At the same time, a promo video of the Fire Rescue Service of the Czech Republic was filmed on site, which will be part of the presentation at the upcoming PYROS 2025 fair.
NST's chief electrical engineer Tomáš Horák, who supervised the tests from a technical point of view, summarized the fundamental findings:
- Testing of the correct load distribution, which is crucial for stability and performance, has been carried out.
- With optimal layout, cruise speed increased up to 13 km/h.
- There were improvements to the below-deck air exhaust, resulting in improved cooling.
- We also noted a reduction in the noise load in the hull area, which contributes to greater comfort for the crew and the passengers transported.
“Every test, every reminder moves us closer to a vehicle that will be a true partner in crisis situations. KALAN is not just a machine — it is the answer to the real needs of professional firefighters and paramedics in the field.” stated after the test Ivo Krill, CEO of New Space Technologies s.r.o.
The KALAN vehicle was developed as a response to the specific requirements of emergency services to support in emergencies such as floods, natural disasters and complex logistics operations. It combines amphibious capability, high throughput on heavy terrain, excellent maneuverability, safety and modularity — thus setting a new standard in rescue technology.
Soon this modern colossus of Czech engineering will be presented to the public as part of the world premiere at the fair PYROS 2025 in Pavilion F Booth No.4. Don't miss it!
